ZoogVPN Free Version Guide (Servers, Data, Speed)

ZoogVPN are a Greek based VPN provider, perhaps less well known among the main VPN companies. But one huge positive to their service it that they offer a good free version of their product, with servers in 3 countries and a 10 GB data allowance.

ZoogVPN offers free servers in:

  • Washington, USA
  • London, UK
  • Amsterdam, Netherlands

Here are some more key features of their free plan:

  • No credit card or other payment details needed, just an email address.
  • 10 GB monthly data
  • One device allowed
  • Zero logs
  • Limited P2P support
  • 128-bit encryption
  • There are ads on the free version.

Their 10 GB allowance equates to about 300 MB per day, which is plenty enough for basic browsing and a bit of video as well if not too excessive. I’ve used other free VPN’s with a 10 GB monthly allowance and stayed well within it just for basic browsing and working online, as long as I didn’t watch loads of YouTube.

How To Get ZoogVPN Free Version

You don’t need to pay to get access to the basic, stripped down version of ZugVPN, but you do need to sign up. Here’s the general process:

  • Visit ZoogVPN’s website here.
  • Click on the button to sign up
  • Enter your email and a password to set up an account.
  • Download the app from your account dashboard
  • Install and load up the app
  • Select one of the 5 free server locations.

And that’s really it. You only need an email to open up a free ZoogVPN account, so it’s minimal personal details to at least get access to the free version with a decent data allowance and 5 locations.

Speeds – regarding the speeds of the free servers, I just tested them and they’re perfectly fine and what you’d expect for a free VPN. They offer perfectly decent speeds for basic browsing, email, working online, transactions, and even YouTube if you want, as long as you connect to a server reasonably close to you. The connection takes about 20 seconds to open once you select a server, and speeds are perfectly good once connected.

Do The Free Servers Support Streaming?

Access to streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Video and Hulu is an important feature for some VPN users, but as with all other free VPN services, you’re a bit limited in this regard with ZoogVPN Free.

ZoogVPN’s free servers do not support streaming. You need their Premium plans and servers to access restricted streaming platforms.

Update – Singapore and Germany have recently been removed from the free server list, so now it’s just the UK, USA and Netherlands.

But it might be worth trying. In fact, there’s nothing stopping you at least trying any of the free servers to access Netflix or another service in your country. Occasionally, they may work, but almost all of the time, they won’t and you need the paid servers to access streaming.

You might have more luck with Amazon Video, who don’t seem to be as aggressive with blocking VPN usage. But even if you do gain access, remember you’ve only got 10 GB per month to play with on the free plan, which won’t go far if you’re trying to stream full shows or movies in HD.

ZoogVPN Premium Version Details

If you do decide to upgrade to one of ZoogVPN’s paid plans, you’ll be pleased to find they have some of the cheapest pricing on the VPN market:

  • 1 month – $9.99/month
  • 1 year – $2.99/month
  • 2 years – $1.99/month (plus 3 free months)

These are great value plans and you’ll struggle to find cheaper. Here are some great features of ZoogVPN’s Premium service:

  • Unlimited bandwidth
  • Over 70 server locations in 41 countries
  • Unlimited devices
  • Zero logs
  • Unlimited P2P
  • 256-bit encryption
  • All features
  • Widespread streaming support (20+ Netflix regions, plus other services as well).

It’s fair to say it’s a bit more of a stripped down VPN service, with a no nonsense, uncluttered interface and a decent but not top of the range server selection. But that’s all that some users need, and there’s no point paying $6-8 per month (which you will be for some top end VPNs), when they’re offering servers and features you won’t ever need.

ZoogVPN offer a more basic, but also much cheaper, Premium service that can be fine for many users, just with servers in the main countries you’d expect. They’re a great option for first time VPN users especially.
