Mullvad VPN are actually a provider I only heard about very recently, but they’ve actually been around since 2009. As a Swedish based, grassroots VPN provider, they have a strong culture of independence and being pro-privacy.
Their VPN service is priced mid-range in the market, but what do you get for that price in terms of server selection? Honestly, the answer is not much, since their server location selection is quite small compared to other VPNs.
Mullvad VPN offer 70 server locations in 39 countries, with 16 locations offered in the USA, 4 in Canada, 2 in the UK and 5 in Australia.
This is actually towards the lower end of the Premium VPN market in terms of countries offered, but this needn’t even be a problem, since all the major or “obvious” countries you’d expect to be offered by any VPN are. For many users, there’s no need to go beyond this, so the lack of more specialized server locations isn’t an issue.
Let’s drill down into their server selection.
Full List Of Mullvad VPN Server Locations
Here’s a full list of city/country server locations offered by Mullvad VPN:
- USA – Ashburn, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix, Raleigh, Salt Lake City, San Jose, Seattle, Secaucus
- UK – London, Manchester

- Poland – Warsaw
- Romania – Bucharest
- Serbia – Belgrade
- Singapore
- Slovakia – Bratislava
- South Africa – Johannesburg
- Sweden – Gothenburg, Malmo, Stockholm
- Switzerland – Zurich
- Ukraine – Kyiv
It’s a reasonable, but not market leading, server location selection, with the main USA/European countries you’d expect being provided. More obscure countries are not provided and you have to go to providers like PIA, Surfshark, ExpressVPN and Le VPN to get more server selection with 80-100 countries offered.
But for a lot of users, what Mullvad VPN provides is fine.
Do Mullvad VPN Servers Support Streaming Access?
Honestly, there isn’t a lot of information or promotion about “streaming” or “geo-restricted content” on Mullvad’s website, so we have to assume that it isn’t a priority for them and they are instead focused more on user privacy and security.
Therefore, Mullvad VPN’s servers MAY be able to access some streaming services in some countries, but this isn’t guaranteed.
For widespread, reliable streaming access, ExpressVPN is always the brand to go for, even though it’s one of the most expensive. MullvadVPN may or may not work in accessing Netflix, Amazon Video, Disney+, Hulu, HBO, etc, depending the service and the location selected.
It’s not heavily promoted on their site, so it’s better to assume they don’t focus heavily on this and therefore won’t be as reliable as other VPN services that constantly work on providing streaming access.
Do Mullvad VPN Offer Free Servers?
The simple answer to this is no. The owners are opposed in principle to offering free VPN servers which always feature some kind of watering down in terms of less privacy, speeds, choice or functionality, so they prefer not to do this and instead stick to Premium plans only.
They explain this on their site:
In other words, they don’t offer any free servers. You have to pay to use all their servers. They also don’t offer special deals or seasonal discounts – their price remains constant throughout the year.
